Repair and upgrade your pump instead of replacing it

A track pump that no longer builds pressure or hisses at the valve is almost never beyond repair: it’s usually a seal or the head. These parts cost a few pounds and take five minutes to replace on pumps worth ten to twenty times as much.

Pump heads

The pump head, or chuck, is the part that connects to the valve and the one that wears out. Here, you’ll find it in Presta, Schrader, Dunlop or combined, with a screw-on or lever fitting. Two special cases are worth noting: the90° angled pump head, which helps with hard-to-reach valves, and thelong pump head for disc wheels, where the valve sits deep in the rim.

Upgrade an existing pump

This is the most interesting part of the range. The major brands sell pump head upgrade kits that adapt an older pump to current standards: a universal lever-operated head, a pressure-release system or a high-flow head for tubeless tyres. For the price of an accessory, a ten-year-old pump becomes a pleasure to use again.

The Clik valve

A recent standard replaces the Presta valve core with a clip-in core, with no screws or threads: connect, inflate, disconnect, without bending the valve or losing air. The range includes the pump conversion kits and the valve cores to match. The system remains backwards-compatible with a standard Presta pump head, so you can try it without replacing all your equipment.

Separate pressure gauges

A standalone digital pressure gauge is more accurate than the one built into a pump, especially at the low pressures used for mountain biking and gravel riding. It fits in a tool bag, reads to a tenth of a bar, and many models include a bleeding to fine-tune the pressure downwards directly at the tyre. It’s the little tool that makes pressure settings more consistent.

Seals, hoses and mounts

  • The seal kits for each model: the most cost-effective repair you can make to a hand pump.
  • The replacement hoses, which harden and crack over time, both on pumps and CO2 inflators.
  • The frame mounts, to replace when the clip breaks or you change bikes, in composite or aluminium depending on the model.
  • The valve adapters, particularly for hard-to-reach shock chambers.
