Description

The DT Swiss XM 481 27.5-inchrim is the must-have high-end bare aluminum rim for all-mountain and aggressive trail riding. Highly regarded by artisan wheelbuilders, it’s designed for riders seeking the tolerance and durability of aluminum, combined with the natural handling and agility of the 27.5" wheel size.

Its construction features an exclusive, ultra-strong aluminum alloy, assembled using a high-precision welded joint (SBWT). Its 30 mm internal width provides the perfect modern geometry to accommodate large Trail and lightweight Enduro tires. The tire doesn’t squish or lose traction in corners, allowing you to ride at lower pressures to maximize contact patch, lateral grip, and traction on wet roots and rocks.

What advantages does the PHR system offer over traditional eyelets? The PHR system acts as a ball-and-socket joint between the spoke nut and the rim. During assembly, the nut aligns perfectly with the spoke axis, reducing torsional and shear stresses. Combined with the reinforcement washer, which widens the contact area, this creates an extremely sturdy wheel that remains stable over time and drastically reduces the risk of the rim cracking at the drill holes.

What tire sizes are ideal for the 27.5" XM 481? With its 30 mm internalwidth, this rim is ideally suited for tires ranging from 2.40 to 2.50. Thanks toHooked rim technology, it is compatible with all tires on the market (Tubeless Ready or traditional tubed tires, although tubeless setup is strongly recommended for optimal performance).

What’s the difference between this model and the 27.5" Enduro EX 511 version? The XM 481 (All-Mountain) and the EX 511 (Enduro) share the same 30 mm width and the same welded construction. However, the Enduro version features reinforced sidewalls to withstand the extreme vertical impacts of DH/Enduro competitions. The 27.5" XM 481 weighs about 45 g less, making the rear wheel more dynamic, more responsive to pedaling, and more comfortable on long climbs, while remaining extremely sturdy on descents.

Points forts
