Description
The MAVIC COMETE 50 Wheelset is a carbon road wheel designed to offer an optimal balance between aerodynamics, lightness and control. Developed for cyclists looking for a single wheelset capable of performing across all types of terrain, it combines a 50 mm rim profile with a modern 23 mm internal width. This configuration allows a high speed to be maintained on the flat while retaining excellent responsiveness on climbs and great stability during fast descents.
Its 100% carbon rim benefits from Adaptive Layup construction, a specific layup combining T700, T1000 and 3K fibres. Each fibre type is positioned according to mechanical stresses in order to simultaneously optimise the stiffness, weight and dynamic behaviour of the wheel. This design enables sharp accelerations, excellent handling precision and efficient power transfer without compromising comfort on long rides.
Aerodynamic efficiency is based on the Aero Wide profile developed in a wind tunnel by Mavic engineers in Geneva. With its 50 mm height and 30 mm external width, the COMETE 50 improves air penetration while limiting sensitivity to crosswinds. Paired with 28 mm tyres, it can offer a measured gain of up to 12 seconds over 50 km compared to the Cosmic SLR 45, while maintaining excellent stability at high speed.
The 21 Mavic Aero Carbon spokes per wheel play an essential role in lateral stiffness and pedalling precision. Their low mass reduces peripheral inertia while their design optimises the transfer of every watt to the road. This architecture delivers an immediate acceleration feel both during sprints and when changing pace on climbs.
The hubs integrate Mavic Ceramic bearings paired with the freehub ID360 40T system, renowned for its smoothness and responsiveness. Compatible with UST Tubeless Ready and designed exclusively for Center Lock disc braking, the COMETE 50 weighs a remarkable 1315 g per pair, making it a top-of-the-range reference for road performance.
