Description
The Sidi NIX S GTX is the Italian manufacturer’s premium winter road cycling shoe. Its design approach is clear at first glance: while most winter boots add bulk, the NIX S retains a slim, aerodynamic profile. The insulation is built into the shoe rather than layered on top, avoiding the feeling of pedalling in slippers.
The upper combines a PFC-free Gore-Tex membrane with a thermoregulating fleece lining: the membrane blocks road spray and moisture, the fleece insulates against the cold, and the shoe remains breathable. Closure is provided by the Wrapper wraparound system and a dial with an integrated lever: the lever allows high-torque tightening, while the dial can still be fine-tuned with the lever closed — useful when winter gloves reduce dexterity. Firmor Surround technology stabilises the foot and ankle, and the toe is reinforced against impacts.
The sole is an R2CC composite with a stiffness rating of 9 on Sidi’s scale of 5 to 12. That is this model’s standout feature: most winter shoes sacrifice power transfer for warmth, but the NIX S retains stiffness close to that of a high-performance road shoe. 3-bolt cleat mounting, compatible with Look and Shimano SPD-SL, and a Millennium fit. The black finish is the most understated in the range and shows dirt the least on winter rides.
